When I took the East Texas Doll Show and Sale, I was like the kid in the story..." with sugar plums dancing in her head"! It is with huge dreams of producing the Show of Shows for the doll industry and great personal delight that I set out to produce a wonderful doll experience for all who attended. That feeling has not diminished but rather grown. We took the show from Tyler, Texas to Grapevine near Dallas, renamed it Les Belles Poupees....The Beautiful Dolls in English, and had a wonderful time once again gathering together with friends and doll lovers and makers from all over the globe. I have each of you that attended, as a guest or as a dealer, to thank for the continued success of our show. I say "our" because it is indeed an effort of many that makes this show fun, interesting, rewarding and a true doll experience for the collector, the doll artist and to those of you that attended to see what the hoopla was all about!
As we began work on the 2010 show, events in my personal life have caused me to take pause with the planning of the show. In the late summer of 2009 my mom suffered two strokes. Anyone that has a family member or friend who has suffered this trauma knows what I mean when I say that not just the stroke victim is affected. It affects everyone involved with that person and especially the family. I have decided that this year we will not produce our show so that I can be available for any help I can offer my family. It takes 12 months to plan and execute a show of this size and I simply do not have the time this year as my priorities are with my family rather than my business.
We are by no means canceling our show for future years. I have a new page on the Les Belles Poupees web site explaining my ideas for this new show and I urge you to read it when you have a moment. We are breaking ground on a new concept in doll shows in 2011! We are very excited about this new type of show and I hope that you will plan to join us as we announce the location and time of the year on our site in the future. The ground work has been laid, we already have made major decisions about our new format and as we fine tune this event I hope you too will see that we are offering all doll makers and collectors an opportunity to see our art through new eyes and with new vision while we add new artists in new mediums to our gathering that are sure to challenge any doll maker! Several dealers are already committed to the "new format" for our show and I want you to all know that it will be advertised as a multi media show with emphasis on THE DOLL!
This is not by any means an end to L.B.P., this is a hick-up in the road. We have huge plans and hope you will join us and support the industry by being an active part of our show!
Look for Les Belles Poupees updates in the coming months!
God Bless !
